After a leisurely day at sea you’ll awake to the spellbinding beauty of Hardangerfjord where Marco Polo drops anchor for passengers taking the overland tour to go ashore in the pretty village of Ulvik. From the charming village of Eidfjord optional tours visit the famous Vøringsfossen waterfall and Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau. When you step ashore in the tiny village of Flåm you are immediately surrounded by wild and dramatic nature. The optional Flåm Railway excursion, an exciting ride on one of the world’s steepest railways through simply spectacular scenery, is not to be missed! As you leave Flåm relax and enjoy the ever-changing vistas as Marco Polo cruises the mighty Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. Your next stop is Hellesylt from where our tour selection takes in the magnificent scenery of Geirangerfjord, one Norway’s two UNESCO-listed fjords.With its colourful Hanseatic waterfront, traditional fish market and wonderful small shops selling traditional Norwegian souvenirs, Bergen, the ‘Gateway to the Fjords’, is an absolute delight. 	Nestled at the head of the peaceful Ulvikfjord and framed by a beautiful backdrop of glorious mountains, the pretty village of Ulvik is just a scattering of attractive houses, a waterfront hotel and white-clapboarded church. The village sits in the heart of one of Norway’s largest fruit growing districts with hillside orchards stretching down to the shores of the fjord. From where ships anchor in the fjord, the village, which is the start of an optional overland excursion highlighting the charms of Hardangerfjord, is picture-postcard perfect. (Only passengers taking the excursion go ashore in Ulvik)

	Lying at the end of a tributary of the beautiful Hardangerfjord, Eidfjord is surrounded by mountains up to 1,900 metres high. The small town is the gateway to Hardangervidda, which is the largest high mountain plateau in Europe and Norway’s largest national park. A short walk from the village centre there are graves by the roadside dating back to the Iron Age and Viking eras. The ‘old’ church in Eidfjord was built in 1309. Nearby the stunning Vøringfossen waterfall is one of Norway’s most popular natural attractions and features in optional excursions along with the amazing Sysen Dam.

	Surrounded by towering mountains the tiny village of Flåm, with some 500 inhabitants, nestles at the head of Aurlandsfjord, the innermost arm of the mighty Sognefjord. Its popularity as a tourist destination began in the late 19th century with the arrival of steamships carrying English and German passengers including Europe’s royals attracted by the salmon fishing in the Flåm River. Today’s visitors are drawn to Flåm for a chance to ride on one of the world’s steepest and most spectacular railways. A masterpiece of engineering, Flåm Railway twists and turns through the steep-sided Flåm Valley amidst some of Norway’s most breathtaking mountain scenery.

	From a small farming village that was relatively isolated in the 1800’s, Geiranger has grown into one of Norway’s most popular tourist resorts. It sits at the head of the stunningly beautiful Geirangerfjord against a backdrop of splendid mountain scenery. From Geiranger steep mountain roads snake their way up to dizzying heights and panoramic views that are quite literally breathtaking. Snow dusted peaks, wild tumbling waterfalls, lush green valleys and dramatic gorges stretch as far as the eye can see with their reflections in the mirror-calm waters of the incredible Geirangerfjord far below.

	Known as the ‘Gateway to the Fjords’, Bergen is Norway’s second largest city. Yet with a population of less than a quarter of a million, it has the feel of a small town. It is beautifully sited against a backdrop of seven mountains and the funicular ride to the summit of Mount Fløien affords wonderful panoramic views of Bergen and Norway’s attractive coastline. Overlooking the harbour the colourful Bryggen wharf is the face of Bergen. The characteristic wooden gabled buildings were once the home and offices of Hanseatic merchants but today house shops selling crafts and traditional souvenirs.
